POLICITCAL STATEMENT, READ AT YOUR OWN PERIL

WARNING: A POLITICAL STATEMENT FOLLOWS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

That pretty much sums up my feelings!!

When the 2004 election came around and the negative ads started and the right wing went crazy and after the debaucle of the 2000 election and hanging chads, I made a decision to avoid U.S. elections at all cost.
So, as soon as we could get our absentee ballots, we were gone.  We got the ballots, threw the cat in the car, and headed for N.C. where we would spend a day or two, and leave  the cat with my parents(In their 90's, living at home, and going strong).

I almost escaped without a high blood pressure attack, but I read the editorial in U.S. New and World Report by Mortimer B Zuckerman.  Mr. Zuckerman has the balls to say that the new elite in America are the public service workers. His editorial, and I recommend that you read it, pretty much says that these people should be reduced to serfdom like the rest of America.  Mr. Zuckerman, like most of us, cherry pick a few examples to support his side.  Retirement  and benefits do not fit into Mr. Zuckerman's world.  The elite has pretty much wiped out benefits for the public so it is only fair that the public worker get screwed too. Greeter at Walmart should be your aspiration in life.  And you if you are really lucky you may make it to doorman for Mr. Zuckerman and the other rich.

Did I mention Mr. Zuckerman is a billionaire?  In fact, his life is so bad that he moved from 382nd richest to 187th richest American in 3 short years. I am sure he would not even know that there is a depression in America if he did not own the news outlets. I am sure in his world no one has been laid off or had their benefits cut that he knows personally.  I know that the government in my town, my state and my nation have been laying off people. In the 1000th floor of the Zuckerman building, I am sure nothing has changed.  The man has never seen a metal detector, a coach seat, or ridden on a bus in his life. (He keeps houses in New York City, East Hampton, New York and Aspen, Colorado. He also keeps a 166-foot Oceanco Yacht, the Lazy Z. For transportation, he previously owned a Falcon 900 corporate jet but has recently purchased a Gulfstream G550.)

The amazing thing, that I do not get, are a lot of the people that have lost the most do not seem to be upset with the elite like Zuckerman and the others who are sucking up thier money like the strongest vacuum cleaner in the world. They buy that whole notion that the government is at fault, the unions are at fault, the taxes on the rich are at fault, the wind is at fault.  They follow these people like the wealthy Glenn Beck like sheep.  Fact checking is not a virtue of  many.  If someone sends something to them they send it on as the gospel.  They want to believe all the rich propaganda.  There are no medium income talk show hosts on Fox or any other network.

back to our regularly scheduled trip.
