ADIJIO SLOVENIA, CIAO ITALY

5 OCT
We pointed Punto westward and headed for Italy.  The dawn had come with sunny skies and it was a great feeling.  We passed through Treiste and took a left to follow the coast.  The hotels coffee this morning was undrinkable, so about 11 we stopped in Gardo, Italy for coffee.  This is a very lovely old fishing village, but is now mostly a holiday resort and if you ignore the condos and just stay in town it is beautiful.  Thanks to the terrorist alert and the end of the season there seemed to be only locals in town.  A nice place and we would certainly come back again and spend more time in the off season.  During the season, it is probably a mad house.

ok, lets look a where we are going

To avoid the congestion of Venize we got on the autostrada.  Vicki is directionally challenged, but is a great navigator  given a decent road map and a few signs.  Today she had neither, so we became, shall we say, slightly displaced.  When my internal GPS finally told me we were heading in the wrong direction at 90 mph, something she did not want to hear, we got off the autostrada we indeed not were we where supposed to be.  No big deal as we really do enjoy these little misadventures.  We study the map and get to know areas that we had no intention of going.  Quickly we were back on track.

lunch behind the gas station
That is, until I pulled in to get gas.  Lots of gas stations are self service in Europe.  There is a central pay station and you put in a credit card or money and select the pump and amount you want.  They are not all the same. Long story short the machine ate me 50 eur.  To much money to abandon, so we had lunch in the car and waited a hour for the attendant to return.  He quickly took care of us and we were on our way to Chioggia.
