CHIOGGIA TO IL POGGIOLINO

OCT 9-14

We put Chioggia in the rear view mirror and headed southwest towards Florence.  We took the coastal road to Ravinne and then headed across the mountains to Il Poggialino.  The east side of the mountains had little traffic and most of that was motorcycles and bicycles. On the west side the traffic picked up as weekend traffic from Florence headed into the hills.

Il Poggiolino is the first place we came as refugees from the U.S. elections in 2004.  On our first visit we were hardly in the door before Vicki told the landlord we would stay an extra week. She loves the cottage and the isolation.  It is a very comfortable 4 room stone cottage way up the side of the mountain. Trevane, a small commune, is several hundred meters up the road, but that is it for neighbors. The people of Trevane and I have had great visits.  The only problem is, they do not speak English and I do not speak Italian, but we sure have a great time. Daniel and Manula, the owners, have become friends since our first visit.  She met us with wine, bread, cheese and proscuitto.  We will now just hide out here for a few days.

Sunday we did laundry and sat around Il Poggiolino reading and doing nothing in the sun.
